Australian Open 2021 Preview Day 8: Nick Kyrgios Gives his thoughts on the GOAT
Diez, Draxl, Polansky and Schnur handed Qualifying Wild Cards

Toronto, Wednesday August 4, 2021 — Tennis Canada announced on Wednesday that Nick Kyrgios of Australia has been given a wild card into the main draw of the 2021 National Bank Open presented by Rogers in Toronto.

A six-time ATP title winner, 26-year-old Kyrgios is sure to electrify the Aviva Centre crowd in Toronto. His best runs at the National Bank Open came in 2015 and 2017 when he reached the third round, the latter as the tournament’s 16th seed before being knocked out by fourth seed and that year’s runner up Alexander Zverev.

“I’m really pleased to be playing in Toronto this year,” Kyrgios said. “I’ve always enjoyed my time in Canada and have great memories of playing there. Hopefully I can play well and put on a good show for my Canadian fans.”

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Nick [Kyrgios] to the National Bank Open presented by Rogers as a main draw wild card this year,” commented Karl Hale, Tournament Director of National Bank Open in Toronto. “Our fans will be so thrilled to watch him in action as he is such an exciting player. We cannot wait to see him in Toronto next week.”

Tennis Canada confirmed on July 14 that Canadian Vasek Pospisil will also receive a wild card to the National Bank Open main draw. The tournament’s third and final main draw wild card has been allocated to the USTA following an agreement with Tennis Canada. Its recipient will be announced in the coming days.

Four Canadians handed Qualifying wild cards

Tennis Canada also announced on Wednesday that Canadians Steven Diez (No. 193), Peter Polansky (No. 246), Brayden Schnur (No. 250) and Liam Draxl (No. 505) have been handed wild cards to the qualifying draw at the National Bank Open in Toronto. All four will be hoping to earn their place in the main draw and a chance to play on home soil in front of a passionate Canadian crowd at Aviva Centre.

Tennis Canada would like to reiterate that the site will be closed to the public for qualifying weekend, Saturday August 7 and Sunday August 8.

Tickets for the 2021 National Bank Open presented by Rogers are now available at www.nationalbankopen.com. Alternatively, fans can contact Tennis Canada’s ticketing team at tickets@tenniscanada.com or 1 877 283-6647.
