Navarro, Townsend Reach National Bank Open Quarterfinals
American’s Taylor Townsend and Emma Navarro cruised into the quarterfinals of the National Bank Open on Friday.
Townsend, who was very impressive during the day session, defeated No. 4 seed Jelena Ostapenko 6-2, 6-1. Hitting five aces and winning 76 percent of her first serve points, Townsend broke her higher ranked opponent on six occasions.
Currently ranked No. 71 in the world, Townsend will next face Navarro for a place in the semifinals.

Navvaro, who is the tournament’s No. 8 seed, dismissed No. 11 seed Marta Kostyuk 7-5, 7-5.
The 23-year-old American reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon and fourth round of the French Open in 2024.
Defending champion Jessica Pegula dismissed Ashlyn Krueger 6-2, 6-4 and Amanda Anisamova progressed when No. 10 seed Anna
Kalinskaya was forced to withdraw training 6-2.
Top seed Coco Gauff and No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka will highlight the night session.
Gauff will take on No. 14 seed Diana Shnaider and Sabalenka will face Katie Boulter.
Over in Montreal, all play was cancelled due to ongoing severe thunder storms.
All round of 32 and 16 matches will be played tomorrow.
Top seed Jannik Sinner, No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev, No. 4 seed Hubert Hurkacz and No. 5 seed Andrey Rublev are still alive in the tournament.
