No. 4 seed Rafael Nadal captured his record 10th title at the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters on Sunday in Monaco, defeating countryman Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-1, 6-3. In a match that lasted one hour and 16 minutes, Nadal raced out to a 5-1 lead and never looked back. Improving to 3-0 against Ramos-Vinolas in lifetime meetings, Nadal hit five aces, won 81 percent of his first serve points and 70 percent of his second serve points. Breaking serve on four occasions, Nadal never faced a break point along the way to his 70th career title.
Surpassing Guillermo Vilas as the winningest clay-court player in history with 50 career titles, Nadal cemented himself as the best clay-court player ever. The Hall of Famer will next see action at the Barcelona Open in Spain.
Ramos-Vinolas, who was playing in his first-ever Masters 1000 final, defeated world No. 1 Andy Murray and No. 8 Marin Cilic earlier in the event.
