Roland Garros—Paris, France
No. 1 seed Rafael Nadal captured his ninth French Open title on Sunday in Paris, defeating No. 2 seed Novak Djokovic 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, 6-4. In a match that took three hours and 31 minutes to complete, Nadal struck 44 winners, hit three aces and broke the serve of the Serbian on six occasions to prevail. Taking home his 14th career major title, Nadal is now tied with Pete Sampras on the all-time list. The Spaniard will also hold onto his No. 1 ranking and will head into Wimbledon as the top seed. Djokovic, who was looking to complete his grand slam collection with a victory in Paris, fell ill after the second set and never recovered.
