Nadal Reaches Semifinals in Bastad After Marathon Victory Over Navone
Former winner Rafael Nadal battled into the semifinals of the Bastad Open on Friday, defeating Mariano Navone 6-7(2), 7-5, 6-2.
Needing an astonishing four hours to advance, Nadal’s victory was the second longest three set match of his career.
Hitting 33 winners and breaking serve on 10 occasions, Nadal posted a very impressive 62 percent of his first serve points won.
The Spaniard will next face Duje Ajdukovic for a place in the finals. Ajdukovic ousted Thiago Monteiro 6-2 4-6 6-4.
Other matches still to come on Friday will include Thiago Agustin Tirante vs. Roberto Carballes Baena and Timofey Skatov vs. No. 7 seed Nuno Borges.

EFG Swiss Open Gstaad—Gstaad, Switzerland
Top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas breezed into the semifinals of the Swiss Open Gstaad on Friday, defeating Fabio Fognini 6-4, 6-3.
The Greek star, who has won one title this year in Monte Carlo, will await the winner of No. 3 seed Felix Auger Aliassime or No. 6 seed Matteo Berrettini.
Saturday’s other semifinal will feature No. 5 seed Jan-Lennard Struff vs. Quentin Halys.

Hamburg Open—Hamburg, Germany
No. 2 seed Holger Rune was forced to retire with a knee injury against Frenchman Arthur Fils on Friday in Hamburg, Germany.
Trailing 6-4, 4-1, Rune approached his opponent to notify him that the contest was over.
Fils, who continues to surge up the rankings this year, will next face Sebastian Baez for a spot in the finals. Baez needed three sets to dismiss No. 7 seed Luciano Darderi 2-6 6-4 6-4.
