Nadal Reaches Bastad Quarterfinals
Former world No. 1 and 22-time Major winner Rafael Nadal advanced to the quarterfinals in Bastad on Thursday, defeating Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-4.
In an entertaining match that lasted one hour and 43 minutes, Nadal struck 22 winners, won 67 percent of his points at the net and broke the serve of his British opponent on three occasions.
Improving to 5-1 against Norrie in lifetime meetings, Nadal will next face Mariano Navone for a place in the semifinals.
Navone continued his stellar year on Tour by improving to 15-11. He has reached two finals this year in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Bucharest, Romania.
Navone defeated Sumit Nagal 6-4, 6-2 earlier in the day.
Other winners on Thursday included Timofey Skatov. The qualifier ousted No. 3 seed Tallon Griekspoor 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Hamburg Open—Hamburg, Germany
Thursday’s action at the 500 level event in Hamburg, Germany saw No. 5 seed Arthur Fils defeat Laslo Djere 7-6(3), 6-2 and Chinese star Zhizhen Zhang oust Flavio Cobolli 6-1, 7-6(5).
Fils will await No. 2 seed Holger Rune for a place in the semifinals. The Dane defeated Marco Trungelliti 6-4, 6-3.
Zhang’s path to the final four will see him face either top seed Alexander Zverev or Frenchman Hugo Gaston.
