World No. 11 Andy Murray has been awarded a wild card into the 2014 Shenzhen Open. The inaugural edition of the ATP World Tour 250 tournament will be played 20-28 September at the Shenzhen Longgang Sports Center, a state-of-the-art facility with more than 20 outdoor match courts.

Currently No. 11 in the Emirates ATP Race to London, the 27-year-old Murray will be looking to gain points in the upcoming weeks to join Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at the Barclay’s ATP World Tour Finals, featuring an elite eight-player singles field.

Murray said. “I am looking forward to competing at the Shenzhen Open, a new event on the ATP World Tour, and starting my first match of the Asian swing in China. I’m looking forward to a busy month in Asia and playing in front of the passionate fans out here.”

“We are so happy to have Andy Murray joining the tournament,” Tournament Director Allon Khakshouri said. “It will be an amazing tournament with great players for tennis fans in China.”

As one of the co-organisers, Grand Gemdale Tennis Club General Manager Zhang Chi expressed his welcome. “As a Grand Slam and Olympic winner, Andy Murray has chosen Shenzhen Open to begin his battle in China and show his love for the city and his recognition towards our tournament,” said Zhang Chi. “It is unique to have a super player field with Murray, Ferrer, Gasquet, Robredo, Bautista and Simon, among others, in our ATP World Tour 250 series event. Hereby I would like to wish all players their best performances in Shenzhen and delivering an unforgettable experience for our tennis fans.”
