Mpetshi Perricard Wins Opener in Chengdu; Cilic Advances in Hangzhou
Wednesday’s action in Chengdu, China featured big-serving Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard overcoming the stiff challenge of wildcard Fajing Sun, 6-7(5), 7-5, 6-4.
Slamming 34 aces, Mpetshi Perricard will next face Yannik Hanfmann or Shintaro Mochizuki for a place in the quarterfinals.
Other winners on the day included Taro Daniel defeating No. 6 seed Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 7-5.
Thursday’s schedule will include Kei Nishikori, Fabio Fognini, Borna Coric and No. 5 seed Adrian Mannarino.

Hangzhou Open—China
Former US Open winner Marin Cilic made a triumphant return to the ATP Tour on Wednesday in Hangzhou, China, dismissing Zachary Svajda 5-7, 6-3, 6-0.
Hitting 14 aces, 33 winners and breaking serve on seven occasions, Cilic will take on either Maximilian Marterer or No. 8 Yoshihito Nishioka in the round of 16.
Cilic entered the event with an 0-4 record on the season.
Other winners on the day included Mikhail Kukushkin and Fabian Marozsan. Kukushkin dismissed No. 5 seed Luciano Darderi and Marozsan dispatched Luca Nardi 6-0, 6-2.
Thursday’s action will feature Zhizhen Zhang, Corentin Moutet and Hugo Gaston.
