Michelsen Reaches Semifinals at Next Gen ATP Finals

Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF—Saudi Arabia—American Alex Michelsen stormed into the semifinals of the Next Gen Finals in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Thursday, defeating No. 6 seed Luca Van Assche 1-4, 4-2, 4-3(6), 4-3(5).
Needing one hour and 43 minutes to prevail, Michelsen struck six aces, won 71 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on two occasions.
Currently ranked No. 41 in the world, Michelsen will now await his semifinal opponent.
Other results on the day saw No. 7 seed Nishesh Basavareddy ousting Tour winner Juncheng Shang 3-4(4), 4-2, 4-2, 4-1.
Basavareddy will face Van Assche on Friday for a place in the semifinals.
Other matches that are still to come on Thursday will include top seed Arthur Fils faceing No. 3 seed Jakub Mensik and No. 5 seed Learner Tien taking on No. 8 seed Joao Fonseca.
