Medvedev, Zverev and Sabalenka Reach French Open Fourth Round
Saturday’s action at the French Open featured former US Open winner Daniil Medvedev reaching the fourth round, defeating Tomas Machac 7-6(4), 7-5, 1-6, 6-4.
Slamming 14 aces and winning 66 percent of his first serve points, Medvedev broke the serve of his Czech opponent on five occasions.
Needing three hours and 23 minutes to advance, Medvedev will next face No. 11 seed Alex de Minaur for a place in the quarterfinals.
Elsewhere, No. 4 seed Alexander Zverev needed five, thrilling sets to get passed Tallon Griekspoor 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(3).
Zverev, who is looking to win his first-ever Major, will next face either No. 13 seed Holger Rune or Jozef Kovalik.
Other winners on the day included No. 8 seed Hubert Hurkacz and No. 21 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Sabalenka Defeats Good Friend Badosa
No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka progressed the fourth round of the tournament on Saturday, ousting good friend Paula Badosa 7-5, 6-1.
The Belarusian will next face No. 14 seed Madison Keys or Emma Navarro.
Other women’s winners on the day saw No. 4 seed Elena Rybakina, No. 12 seed Jasmine Paolini and No. 15 seed Elina Svitolina all reach the round of 16.
Sunday’s action in Paris will feature Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
