Mboko Wins 2nd Career Title at Hong Kong Open

[MONTREAL, QC] November 2, 2025 – On Sunday, Victoria Mboko was crowned champion at the WTA 250 Hong Kong Tennis Open, earning her second WTA winner’s trophy and sixth professional title of the season. The 19-year-old, who started out the year as the No.333, closes out 2025 with the highest ranking of her career at No.18 and as Canada’s top player on the women’s tour.

Mboko had an outstanding week in Hong Kong, devising three comebacks en route to the final. Shedefeated Talia Gibson of Australia (6-7(2), 6-1, 6-4) and then Alexandra Eala of the Philippines (3-6, 6-3, 6-4). She advanced again when Anna Kalinskaya was forced to retire (6-1, 3-1, ret.) and then turned things around against fellow Canadian and second seed Leylah Fernandez in the semifinal (2-6, 6-3, 6-2).

In the final showdown, she overpowered Cristina Bucsa of Spain in three sets (7-5, 6-7(9), 6-2).

“It feels really nice to finish the season with a win. I try to stay calm and not put too many expectations on myself — there are so many talented players, you never know what’s going to happen, commented Mboko. I like to take things day by day. I’m just really happy I managed to win another title today, keep myself pumped up, and stay positive in the third set, even though I was super tired and Cristina (Bucsa) was playing such great tennis and fighting hard.”

The title caps off a remarkable season for the teenager, who’s been enjoying a meteoric rise. Just last week, she reached the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 in Tokyo. In 2025, she made history when she won the WTA 1000 National Bank Open presented by Rogers in Montréal, becoming one of the youngest champions in the tournament’s history and the first Canadian to triumph in Montréal. She also competed in the final of the WTA 125 in Parma and took home the ITF titles from Porto (W75), Rome (W75),
Manchester (W35), Guadeloupe (W35) and Martinique (W35).

Meanwhile in Paris: Auger-Aliassime battles in the final of the Masters 1000 World No.10 Félix Auger-Aliassime advanced to the final of the Rolex Paris Masters, where he collided with World No.2 Jannik Sinner of Italy. The Canadian was vying for the first Masters 1000 title of his career.

The Quebecer is ending the season on a high note after winning his third title of 2025 at the ATP 250 in Brussels just three weeks ago. His momentum in the French capital pushed him past Lorenzo Musetti in the race to secure the eighth and final spot at the Nitto ATP Finals.

On his way to the final, Auger-Aliassime came back from a one-set deficit in three of his matches. He toppled Francisco Comesana of Argentina (6-7(2), 6-3, 6-3), Alexandre Muller of France (5-7, 7-6(5), 7- 6(4)), Daniel Altmaier of Germany (3-6, 6-3, 6-2), Valentin Vacherot of Monaco (6-2, 6-2) and Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan (7-6(3), 6-4).

On Sunday, he fell 6-4, 7-6(4) to the reigning AO and Wimbledon champion. He was unable to convert his break point opportunities, while Sinner capitalized on one of his six chances.

The win means Sinner will reclaim the World No.1 ranking, as Auger-Aliassime rises to No.8. Next week, the Canadian will compete at the Moselle Open in Metz for a ticket to Turin and the ATP Finals.
