Mannarino Wins Winston-Salem Open Title Over Djere

Winston-Salem Open—Winston-Salem, NC, U.S.A.

Frenchman Adrian Mannarino won his second career title in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Saturday, defeating Serb Laslo Djere 7-6(1), 6-4.

Needing one and 44 minutes to seal his victory, Mannarino used his unorthodox game to hit three aces, win 83 percent of his first serve points and break serve on two occasions. Never playing his opponent on tour prior to today’s contest, Mannarino capped off a great week which saw him defeat the likes of No. 2 seed Botic van de Zandschulp, No. 4 seed Maxime Cressy, No. 8 seed Albert Ramos Vinolas and No. 9 seed Emil Ruusuvuori.

Ranked as high as No. 22 in the world back in March of 2018, Mannarino will improve his ranking to No. 45 on Monday.

In what was a satisfying ending to the Winstom-Salem open, it’s left many of us wanting more. If you want to get your racquet sport fix elsewhere, it may be worth checking out the sport of padel. The Spanish-born game has been making waves across all of Europe in recent years, and learning how to play should be an easy learning curve for seasoned tennis players.

Djere, who was seeking his third career title, dismissed Richard Gasquet and David Goffin earlier in the tournament.

Mannarino and Djere will next see action at the US Open, which begins on Monday in Flushing Meadows, New York.
