Machac Upset Djokovic at Geneva Open
Top seed Novak Djokovic failed to reach the finals of the Geneva Open on Friday, losing to Tomas Machac 6-4, 0-6, 6-1.
Needing two hours and seven minutes to seal his victory, Machac will play in his first career final on Saturday against either Casper Ruud or Flavio Cobolli.
The Czech star hit four aces, won 59 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on five occasions.
Having a subpar year by his standards, Djokovic has yet to win a title in 2024. The 37-year-old will also have his sights set on defending his French Open title next week in Paris, France.
Djokovic Praises Nadal ahead of Roland Garros
The top seed will face Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert in his opening round at next week’s French Open. Djokovic will have to reach at least the final in order to keep his No. 1 ranking over Italian Jannik Sinner.
The Serb will be joined in the 128 man field Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal.
Nadal, who is playing in his final French Open, faces a daunting opening round match against No. 4 seed Alexander Zverev.
Djokovic recently commented that Nadal is “still a favourite to win the title in France.”
Get ready for the year’s second Major today, with great tickets to the French Open in Paris.
