Sunday’s action at the Rolex Shanghai Masters saw No. 2 seed Daniil Medvedev crash out of the event, losing in straight sets to No. 26 Sebastian Korda 7-6(8), 6-2.
Korda Defeats Medvedev
Korda, who made the final at the Astana Open last week, will next face No. 20 seed Francisco Cerundolo.
Medvedev, who made the finals in Beijing last week, was the defending champion in Shanghai (last held in 2019).
Elsewhere, No. 6 seed Jannik Sinner, No. 8 seed Casper Ruud, No. 16 seed Hubert Hurkacz and No. 19 seed Ben Shelton all reached the fourth round.
Second round matches that were completed on Sunday due to rain included: No. 5 seed Andrey Rublev, No. 13 seed Karen Khachanov and No. 18 seed Grigor Dimitrov all advancing. No. 10 seed Frances Tiafoe was ousted by Lorenzo Sonego in three sets.
Monday’s schedule in Shanghai will be highlighted by Carlos Alcaraz, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul.
