American Madison Keys put herself in contention for the final Major of 2019 in New York City by winning the Western & Southern Open on Sunday over Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova 7-5, 7-6(5). Needing one hour and 44 minutes to claim her title, Keys hit 13 aces, won 76 percent of her first serve points and broke serve on five occasions.

Winning her fifth career title, Keys’s impressive tournament included victories over Garbine Muguruza, Simona Halep, Venus Williams and Sofia Kenin.

Kuznetsova, who is currently ranked No. 153 in the world, has 18 career titles. The 34 also owns two career Major wins.

Over on the men’s side, Russian Daniil Medvedev continued his remarkable summer by winning his fifth career title and first Masters 1000 title over David Goffin 7-6(3), 6-4.

Reaching his third straight final in as many weeks, Medvedev used his potent serve and world-class backhand to overpower his Belgium opponent. Improving to a Tour best 44-6 on the year, Medvedev hit 10 aces and won 90 percent of his first serve points.

Medvedev, who lost to Rafael Nadal last week in the Rogers Cup final and Nick Kyrgios in the finals of the Citi Open earlier this month, will improve to a career high No. 5 in the world on Monday.

Goffin, who is currently ranked No. 19 in the world, owns four career titles.
