Winston-Salem Open—North Carolina, U.S.A.
Belarusian Ilya Ivashka captured his first ATP Tour title on Saturday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, defeating Sweden’s Mikael Ymer 6-0, 6-2. Needing a mere 55 minutes to seal his victory, Ivashka hit four aces, won 100% percent of his first serve points, broke serve on five occasions and never faced a break point on his delivery.
Hitting a new career ranking of No. 53 in the world after his victory, Ivashka dismissed top seed Pablo Carreno Busta in the quarterfinals.
Ymer, who was also playing in his first career final, looked visibly nervous from the onset of the match. The 22-year-old will be ranked No. 72 in the world on Monday after improving his ranking by 18 spots during the event. The Stockholm native dispatched Frances Tiafoe and Carlos Alcaraz earlier in the tournament.
