Miami Open—Miami, Florida
No. 26 seed Hubert Hurkacz defeated No. 21 seed Jannik Sinner 7-6(4), 6-4 on Sunday to capture his first Masters 1000 title at the Miami Open.
Needing one hour and 43 minutes to claim his crown, Hurkacz hit three aces, won 55 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on three occasions. Never facing his younger opponent on Tour, Hurkacz defeated Andrey Rublev, Milos Raonic and Denis Shapovalov earlier in the event.
Entering the week ranked No. 37 in the world, Hurkacz will be ranked No. 16 in the world when Monday’s rankings are released.
Sinner, who is still in his teens, ousted Karen Khachanov earlier in the tournament. Sinner will move up to No. 22 in the rankings on Monday.
