Thursday’s action at the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters featured an abundance of great matches.
Top seed Novak Djokovic was upset by Italian Lorenzo Musetti 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in two hours and 54 minutes. Plagued by rain throughout, Musetti picked up the biggest win of his career and will now face Jannik Sinner.
Defending champion and No. 2 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas rolled past Nicolas Jarry 6-3, 6-4 earlier in the day.
Elsewhere, recent Estoril winner Casper Ruud was ousted by Jan-Lennard Struff 6-1, 7-6(6), No. 5 seed Andrey Rublev defeated good friend and doubles partner Karen Khachanov 7-6(4), 6-2, and No. 6 seed Holger Rune advanced to the quarterfinals after Matteo Berrettini was forced to withdraw a tear in his oblique muscle.
Friday’s action in Monaco will feature all the quarterfinal matches. Musetti will face Sinner, while Tsitsipas will take on Taylor Fritz.
