Australian Open—Melbourne, Australia

No. 4 seed Novak Djokovic claimed his 10th Australian Open title on Sunday in Melbourne, Australia, defeating No. 3 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 7-6(4), 7-6(5).

Needing two hours and 56 minutes to prevail, Djokovic hit seven aces, withstood 15 from his opponent, stuck 36 winners and broke serve on two occasions.

Improving to 11-2 against Tsitsipas in lifetime meetings, Djokovic has now won the last 10 encounters against his Greek opponent.

With his victory, Djokovic will once again take over the No. 1 ranked position in the world on Monday. He is now tied with Rafael Nadal at 22 career Majors, with a hopeful match up for the two at Roland Garros later this Spring. The legendary Serb also holds 93 total career titles, one more than Nadal.

Tsitsipas, who was aiming to win his first-career Major, also lost to Djokovic in the finals of the French Open in 2021.

The men’s Tour will now travel through Europe and South America, before going to the U.A.E and Mexico to end off the month of February.

March will bring forth two exciting Masters 1000 events in Indian Well and Miami. Djokovic will be hopeful to play in these events, but currently can not participate due to the Covid-19 vaccination restrictions in the country.
