Davis Cup Finals – Group Stage
Thursday’s Davis Cup group stage action featured Germany handing Chile its second straight defeat in the competition, winning the tie 3-0.
First up. Yannick Hanfmann defeated world No. 22 Alejandro Tabilo 7-5, 6-4. Hanfmann, who is currently ranked No. 96 in the world, entered the tie with a 15-20 record on the season.
Following Hanfmann’s victory, Maximilian Marterer easily defeated Tomas Barrios Vera 6-1, 6-3 to give team Germay a 2-0 lead.
The final tie of the day saw the doubles tandem of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz easily dispatch Tomas Barrios Vera and Matias Soto 6-1, 6-3.
Improving to 2-0 in the Group, Germany has all but secured its place in the Davis Cup Final at the end of the season.
Still to come on Thursday, Team Canada will face Finland, the Netherlands will take on Brazil and Australia will face Team Czechia.
Friday’s action will be highlighted by the return of Team Spain and Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard will lead his team against France in Valencia, Spain.
