American Taylor Fritz captured his fourth career title on the ATP Tour on Sunday, defeating compatriot France Tiafoe 7-6(3), 7-6(2) at the Japan Open in Tokyo.
Needing one hour and 57 minutes to claim his title, Fritz hit 12 aces, won 78 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on one occasions. In a match that was as close as can be, Fritz used his more powerful serve to upend his inform opponent.
Improving to 4-1 against Tiafoe in lifetime meetings, Fritz will enter the top 10 for the first time on Monday at No. 8. The American has also won titles at Indian Wells and Eastbourne earlier this year.
Tiafoe, who was attempting to win his second career title, recently reached the semifinals of the US Open. The 24-year-old will move up to No. 17 in the world on Monday.

Legendary Serb Novak Djokovic won his second title in as many weeks on Tour on Sunday, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 6-4 at the Astana Open in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
Playing at a world-class level all week, Djokovic struck one ace, won 87 percent of his first serve points and broke his Greek opponent on two occasions during the one hour and 16 minute affair.
Claiming his fourth title of the season, Djokovic also qualified for the season-ending event in Turin, Italy next month.
Improving to 8-2 against Tsitsipas in lifetime meetings, Djokovic notched his 90th career title this week as well.
Tsitsipas, who was looking to win his 10th career title and third this year, defeated Andrey Rublev and Hubert Hurkacz earlier in the tournament.
