All season long, FILA has been celebrating a true innovator and the brand’s original creative director, Pierluigi Rolando. To pay homage to his legacy, the brand launched new and limited edition collections of tennis apparel to coincide with major tournaments throughout the year – each inspired by Rolando’s sketches – as well as bespoke illustrations to further unite the worlds of art, design and sport.
FILA sponsored players Karolina Pliskova and Marin Cilic will debut the latest P.L. Rolando fashions on-court in New York. Additionally, FILA will open its “Tennis in Technicolor” pop-up experience in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in celebration of Rolando and the brand’s storied heritage in the sport.
FILA TENNIS IN TECHNICOLOR POP-UP
On Saturday, August 24 – Sunday, August 25, FILA will launch its “Tennis in Technicolor” immersive pop-up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, to bring the P.L. Rolando campaign and collection to life. The boldly designed space is both interactive and instagrammable, and will celebrate FILA’s iconic impact on the style and culture of the sport. Rolando was the first to bring color to the court in 1973 and guests will have an opportunity to add their own color to the game, with a coloring book mural featuring the newest P.L. Rolando campaign illustrations. Visitors can experience FILA tennis moments via a multimedia archive gallery wall, relax in the “Bleacher Lounge” or play a game of table tennis, enjoy Italian drinks and bites at the “Backhand Bar,” and participate in additional programming activities throughout the weekend. Guests can also purchase the special-edition P.L. Rolando apparel. The pop-up will be located at 85 North 3rd Street in Williamsburg.
The latest drop of the P.L. Rolando collection features FILA’s signature red, white and navy hues, executed with a bold new vision and finished with pops of cerulean and stripe detailing. The line will debut on-court in New York.
For women, the new P.L. Rolando offerings include a sporty mini skort that pairs with a shoulder-highlighting racerback silhouette, flounce hem skater dress, and matching track pants and jacket for a sleek update on classic street-to-courtside silhouettes. For men, pieces such as the coordinating tracksuit feature modern cuts and stripes. Standout styles like the henley and crew neck shirts include slim fits and fabrics also decorated with striping. The collection is currently available on FILA.com. Visit https://www.fila.com/plrolando4 to learn more.
CAMPAIGN ILLUSTRATIONS
With its DNA deeply rooted in tennis and Rolando as a continued source of inspiration, the FILA P.L. Rolando campaign celebrates the culture and creativity of the game. FILA has commissioned four illustrators to create bespoke artwork throughout the year in a way that is fresh and relevant, as the designer’s original work had done in the 1970’s. The final set of illustrations, designed by Quentin Monge, offers a unique interpretation of Rolando’s legacy and the site of the season’s final Slam, using vibrant, playful graphics that echo the energy and excitement of the tournament.
