MIAMI OPEN PRESENTED BY ITAÚ—MIAMI, FL, U.S.A.
No. 4 seed Roger Federer continued his masterful start to the 2017 season after defeating No. 5 seed Rafa Nadal at the Miami Open on Sunday. Dismissing his longtime rival 6-3, 6-4, Federer needed one hour and 35 minutes to claim his 91st career title and fourth straight win against his Spanish opponent.
Winning 87 percent of his first serve points, slamming five aces and breaking serve on two occasions, Federer saved all four breaks on his serve and won his 14th career match against Nadal in 37 meetings.
Nadal, who was aiming to win his first-ever title in Miami during his fifth final appearance, also fell in the finals of Australia and Acapulco earlier this year.
Federer will now take a much-deserved break and will finalize his clay-court season leading into the French Open.
Nadal will return to the Tour at the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters in Monaco in two week’s time.
