Shanghai Rolex Masters—Shanghai, China
No. 2 seed Roger Federer continued his tremendous year on Tour on Sunday in Shanghai, China, defeating his long-time rival Rafael Nadal 6-4, 6-3. Needing a mere one hour and 12 minutes to capture his 94th career title, Federer slammed 10 aces, won 83 percent of his first serve points and 79 percent of his second serve points. Never facing a break point during the encounter, Federer also broke serve on three occasions. Winning his fifth straight match against Nadal, Federer has claimed all four meetings against the Spaniard in 2017.
The Swiss star will remain No. 2 in the world when Monday’s rankings are released. The 36-year-old will next play in his hometown event in Basel, Switzerland, with the Paris Masters and ATP World Tour Finals in London, England to follow.
Nadal, who was in search of his seventh title of 2017, fell to 65-10 on the season. The Spaniard still leads his head-to-head against Federer at 23 wins to 15 losses.
