Montreal, June 20, 2014 – Early this morning the draws were made for Wimbledon. Four earned direct entry into the singles main draws including Eugenie Bouchard (Westmount, QC), Sharon Fichman (Toronto, ON), Vasek Pospisil (Vancouver, BC), and Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON). Meanwhile, Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, QC) won three qualifying matches to get her place in the main draw, and Frank Dancevic (Niagara Falls, ON) got in as a lucky loser following the withdrawal of Spaniard Nicolas Almagro. In addition, Gabriela Dabrowski (Ottawa, ON) and Daniel Nestor (Toronto, ON) will compete in doubles along with Bouchard, Fichman, and Pospisil.

On the men’s side, Raonic is the no. 8 seed and will try and win his first tour match on grass season when he takes on Aussie Matthew Ebden, ranked no. 86 in the world, in the opening round. Ebden has never been past the first round at Wimbledon while Raonic, who is just a few weeks removed from reaching his first Grand Slam quarter-final at Roland-Garros, will try and go beyond the second round for the first time. Pospisil is making his third main draw appearance in London and reached the second round last year. He will face world no. 51 Robin Haase of the Netherlands in the first round. It will be the third meeting between the two players. The Canadian trio in the men’s draw will be completed by Dancevic who will face big servig Croat Ivo Karlovic in his opening match.

On the women’s side, Bouchard, who is the only WTA player to reach the semifinal at the first two Grand Slam events of 2014, will open against Slovakia’s Daniela Hantuchova. The Canadian is seeded no. 13 and finds herself in the same section of the draw as World No. 1 Serena Williams who she could potentially meet in the fourth round. For her part, Fichman will try ad reach the second round at a Major for the first time when she plays Swiss qualifier Timea Bacsinszky. Wozniak will be in tough right out of the gate when she takes on world no. 10 Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia in the first round.

Pospisil and Wozniak will be in action on Monday while Bouchard, Dancevic, Fichman, and Raonic will begin their Wimbledon campaigns on Tuesday.
