Australian Open—Melbourne, Australia
Top seed Novak Djokovic claimed his ninth Australian Open title in convincing fashion on Sunday in Melbourne, Australia, defeating Daniil Medvedev 7-5, 6-2, 6-2. Needing only one hour and 53 minutes to seal his victory, Djokovic hit three aces, won 73 percent of his first serve points, 63 percent of his second serve points, and broke serve on seven occasions.
Increasing his head-to-head against Medvedev to 5-3, Djokovic now holds 18 Grand Slam titles, and trails both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal by two Majors at 20.
With his victory, Djokovic will surpass Federer at most weeks at No. 1 in early March.
Medvedev, who was aiming to win his first Grand Slam title, fell to 0-2 in championship matches. The Russian star also lost Nadal in the US Open final back in 2019.
Medvedev defeated Andrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas earlier in the event.
“Tying his head-to-head with Medvedev and four wins each”. I’m pretty sure it’s 5 to 3 for Novak.
Correct!
