Top seed Novak Djokovic reached the third round of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, Italy on Friday, defeated Tomas Martin Etcheverry 7-6(5), 6-2.
After a tough opening set, Djokovic cruised into the next round in one hour and 52 minutes.
The Serb will next face Grigor Dimitrov, who dismissed Stan Wawrinka 6-4, 7-6(3).
Elsewhere, No. 4 seed Casper Ruud, No. 7 seed Holger Rune, No. 8 seed Jannik Sinner and No. 13 seed Cameron Norrie all progressed to the round of 32.
No. 10 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, No. 11 seed Karen Khachanov and No. 17 seed Tommy Paul all lost in three sets.
Saturday’s action in Rome will feature Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff and Caroline Garcia.
