Young Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz saved five match points to defeat Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-1, 6-7(7), 5-7, 7-6(2), 6-4 in a thrilling encounter.
On the women’s side, Belinda Bencic, Coco Gauff and Victoria Azarenka were all winners. No. 27 seed Amanda Anisamova continued her fine form after dismissing Naomi Osaka in the opening round by ousting Donna Vekic 6-4, 6-1.
Thursday’s action at Roland Garros fill feature Daniil Medvedev and top seed Iga Swiatek.
