Sunday’s action at Wimbledon featured defending champion Novak Djokovic advance to the quarterfinals after he ousted Tim van Rijthoven 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. The world No. 3 needed two hours and 39 minutes to seal his victory, which included seven aces, and breaking his opponent on six occasions.
Djokovic will next face Italian upstart Jannik Sinner, who defeated Carlos Alcaraz 6-1, 6-4, 6-7(8), 6-3.
Elsewhere, No. 9 seed Cameron Norrie reached his first Major quarterfinal after he defeated 30th seed Tommy Paul, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4. Norrie will next face David Goffin, who dismissed No. 23 seed Frances Tiafoe 7-6(3), 5-7, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5.
On the women’s side, Tatjana Maria ousted Jelena Ostapenko 5-7 7-5 7-5, and Marie Bouzkova defeated Caroline Garcia 7-5 6-2. Other results on the day saw Jule Niemeier advance to the quarterfinals to take on countrywoman Maria in an all-German contest.
No. 3 seed Ons Jabeur dispatched Elise Mertens 7-6(9) 6-4 later in the day. Jabeur will next face Bouzkova for a place in the final four. Jabeur is currently ranked No. 2 in the world.
Monday’s action at Wimbledon will feature Rafael Nadal, Paula Badosa, Nick Kyrgios and Amanda Anisamova.
