Top ranked Novak Djokovic breezed into the third round of Wimbledon on Wednesday after he dismissed Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. Needing two hours to advance, Djokovic hit one ace, won 82 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on five occasions.
The world No. 3 will next face fellow Serb Miomir Kecmanovic, who defeated Alejandro Tabilo in four sets.
Elsewhere, No. 3 seed Casper Ruud was upset by Ugo Humbert in four sets, while American Frances Tiafoe advanced over Maximilian Marterer 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(3).
David Goffin, Christian Harrison and Steve Johnson also advanced to the third round.
On the women’s side, No. 2 seed Anett Kontaveit and No. 9 seed Garbine Muguruza were both ousted by Jule Niemeier and Greet Minnen, respectively. Hard-serving Czech Karolina Pliskova advanced to the second round after she dismissed Tereza Martincova in straight sets.
Brit’s Emma Raducanu and two-time winner Andy Murray both lost disappointing second-round encounters. Raducanu was upset by Carolina Garcia 6-3, 6-3 and Murray went out to towering American John Isner 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-7(3), 6-4.
Thursday’s action at Wimbledon will feature Iga Swiatek, Rafael Nadal and Nick Kyrgios.
