Dimitrov Advances to Second Round of 2025 Monte Carlo Masters; Rune Retires
Tuesday’s ATP Tour and Results from Monaco
No. 15 seed Grigor Dimitrov progressed to the second round of the 2025 Rolex Monte Carlo Masters in Monaco on Tuesday, dismissing Nicolas Jarry from Chile 6-3, 6-4.
Needing one hour and 46 minutes to advance, Dimitrov hit one ace, won 72 percent of his first serve points, broke serve on four occasions and struck 10 winners in total.
The Bulgarian star will next face local talent Valentin Vacherot for place in the round of 16. Vacherot defeated Jan-Lennard Struff on Sunday in easy fashion.
Other results on Tuesday saw Monaco resident Holger Rune retire in the second set due to illness, dropping his first match to Nuno Borges from Portugal 6-2, 3-0.
Roberto Bautista Agut, Pedro Martinez and National Bank Open winner Alexei Popyrin also advanced to the second round.
Matches that are still on deck on Tuesday will feature top seed Alexander Zverev taking on Matteo Berrettini, as well as No. 5 seed Jack Draper and defending champion and No. 6 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas on Court Rainier III.
Draper recently won his maiden Masters 1000 title at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California, and Tsitsipas claimed the title in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in February.
Wednesday’s schedule in the Principality will feature continued round of 32 action.
