De Minaur Reaches into Rotterdam Second Round; Fernandez Wins in Abu Dhabi
World No. 8 and tournament No. 3 seed Alex de Minuar raced into the second round of the ABN AMRO Open on Tuesday, defeating former top 10 player David Goffin 6-2, 6-4.
Needing one hour and 36 minutes to advance, de Minaur used his court-speed and experience to hit four aces, win 71 percent of his first serve points and break his Belgium opponent on three occasions.
Recently reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open (l. Jannik Sinner), de Minuar will next face Jakub Mensik, who defeated Alexander Bublik 6-4, 6-4 later in the day.
Other matches that are still to come on Tuesday will include top seed Carlos Alcaraz, No. 4 Andrey Rublev and No. 5 seed Holger Rune.
Jiri Lehecka ousted Alexei Popyrin 7-5, 6-2 in the first match on Centre Court. The inform Czech will next face No. 8 seed Hubert Hurkacz. Hurkacz advanced on Monday by defeating Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 6-2.

Canadian No. 8 seed Leylah Fernandez advanced to the second round of the Abu Dhabi event on Tuesday in the U.A.E., defeating Moyuka Uchijima 7-6(3), 7-6(0).
Needing two hours and eight minutes to seal her victory, Fernandez won 68 percent of her first serve points and broke her Japanese opponent on five occasions. The 22-year-old will next face Lulu Sun from Australia.
Sun dismissed Caroline Garcia 6-1, 6-3 on Monday.
Other results on Tuesday included No. 6 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Belinda Bencic, Magda Linette and Linda Noskova all reaching the second round.
Wednesday’s action in Abu Dhabi will feature top seed Elena Rybakina, No. 2 seed Paula Badosa and No. 3 seed Daria Kasatkina.

Transylvania Open—Cluj-Napoca, Romania
Top seed Anastasia Potapova and No. 2 seed Olga Danilovic reached the second round of the Transylvania Open in Cluj-Napoca, Romania on Tuesday.
Potapova easily advanced past Julia Grabher 6-4, 6-0, and Danilovic dismissed Alycia Parks 6-3, 6-3.
The top seeded Russian will next face Viktorija Golubic, and Danilovic will take on Viktoriya Tomova.
Highlighted matches that are still to come on Tuesday will include two-time former Major winner Simona Halep. Halep, who is currently ranked No. 870 in the world, will face Lucia Bronzetti from Italy.
Halep last played a Tour event in October 2024, losing in the first round of the Hong Kong event to No. 6 seed Yue Yuan.
