Monday’s results at the Rolex Paris Masters included Australian Alex De Minaur winning another burn-burner over Andy Murray, defeating the Brit 7-6(5), 4-6, 7-5.
Needing three hours and one minute to advance, de Minaur will next face Duan Lajovic or Benjamin Bonzi in round two.
Elsewhere, No. 14 seed Frances Tiafoe and No. 15 seed Ben Shelton were both ousted.
No. 9 seed Taylor Fritz, No. 12 seed Tommy Paul and No. 16 seed Karen Khachanov advanced to round two.
Still to come on Monday, three-time Slam winner Stan Wawrinka will be in action.
Wawrinka will face former US Open winner Dominic Thiem.
