Miami Open—Miami, Florida
Saturday’s action at the Miami Open featured former Australian Open finalist Danielle Collins winning the biggest title of her career, defeating No. 4 seed Elena Rybakina 7-5, 6-3.
Needing two hours and two minutes to seal her victory, Collins struck four aces, won 75 percent of her first serve points and broke the serve of her opponent on three occasions.
Improving to 2-3 against Rybakina in lifetime meetings, Collins will move up to No. 22 in the world when the latest rankings are released.
The 30-year-old has announced that she will retire at the end of this season.
Rybakina, who was searching for her eighth career title, will remain at No. 4 in the world on Monday. The 24-year-old dismissed Maria Sakkari, Victoria Azarenka and Madison Keys earlier in the event.
Sunday’s schedule in Miami will be highlighted by No. 2 seed Jannik Sinner taking on No. 11 seed Grigor Dimitrov.
Sinner has been in scintillating form this season, and Dimitrov continues to play the best tennis of his career at the age of 32. The Italian owns a 2-1 head-to-head lead over the Bulgarian.
