[Minneapolis, MN, April 22, 2020] — American tennis player JC Aragone wants to help others during the global pandemic while he waits for live tournaments to resume. He signed a deal with TennisONE to turn app downloads into donations for City Harvest, a New York nonprofit organization that fights hunger. He convinced his long-time friend, Food Network Star Anne Burrell to join him in his crusade.
The pair plan to host a live stream cooking show in the TennisONE App on Friday, April 24th at 6PM ET. The TennisONE App, owned by sports tech startup Bleachr, agrees to donate a dollar per download with Aragone’s initial donation of 925 pounds of food for City Harvest group. TennisONE app users will also have the ability to donate to City Harvest to help fight hunger in New York City.
“JC’s generous idea melted our hearts. What a wonderful way to help people who are really hurting right,” said Kristin Geer, TennisONE’s Chief Executive Officer. “We are honored to host the live stream with JC and Chef Anne Burrell and to see our new TennisONE App used in such a meaningful way.”
The TennisONE App launched in January, designed to be a year-round mobile hub for fans to follow live tennis events around the world. The app won the Tennis Industry Association’s 2020 Innovation Challenge Award before COVID19 shut down live sports. TennisONE quickly pivoted to use the app to live stream ATP and WTA Tour Players as a way to connect the tennis community during the crisis.
JC Aragone is a professional tennis player born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He grew up playing tennis in California before attending the University of Virginia, where he won 3 NCAA team titles. Aragone was also awarded the 2019 Oracle US Tennis Award to support his transition from college to the ATP professional tour.
Chef Anne Burrell from New York is a well-known personality on the Food Network, hosting shows such as Worst Cooks in America and Secrets of a Restaurant Chef. She’s a former instructor at the Institute of Culinary Education, and the author of two best-selling cookbooks.
For every download of the TennisONE App between now and Friday’s charity special live stream, TennisONE will donate a dollar to City Harvest. To download the TennisONE App, go to the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tennisone/id1454840487
