Monday’s action at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, Italy provided the upset of the year on Centre Court. World No. 135 Fabian Marozsan ousted soon-to-be world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in stunning fashion, upsetting the Spaniard 6-3, 7-6(4).
In a match that lasted one hour and 40 minutes, Marozsan hit 30 winners to only seven unforced errors and broke serve on two occasions.
Playing in only his third Tour level event, Marozsan will next face Borna Coric for a place in the quarterfinals.
Coric defeated Roberto Carballes Baena 7-6(3), 6-1.
Elsewhere, No. 6 seed Andrey Rublev and qualifier Yannick Hanfmann also advanced.
