Berrettini Reaches Stuttgart Quarterfinals
Former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini reached the quarterfinals of the Stuttgart Open on Thursday, defeating Canadian Denis Shapovalov 6-4, 6-4.
In a hard-hitting affair that lasted one hour and 14 minutes, Berrettini slammed four aces and won 85 percent of his first serve points.
Hitting 13 winners in total, Berrettini improved 1-2 against Shapovalov in lifetime meetings.
The 28-year-old will next face Australian James Duckworth. Duckworth defeated No. 2 seed Ben Shelton 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3.
Other results on the day saw No. 7 seed Jan Lennard Struff and American Brandon Nakashima advance to the final eight.
Raducanu Advances to Nottingham Quarterfinals
Former US Open champion Emma Raducanu stormed into the quarterfinals of the Nottingham event on Thursday, ousting Daria Snigur 6-2, 6-2.
Needing only one hour and 19 minutes to seal her victory, the 21-year-old will next Francesca Jones or Ashlyn Krueger for a place in the semifinals.
Other winners on Thursday included No. 5 seed Magdalena Frech defeating Tatjana Maria 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
