Babolat and Dominic Thiem: A Decade of Partnership
Thiem Retires from Tennis
Since 2015, Austrian tennis champion Dominic Thiem has wielded Babolat racquets with finesse and force. As he bids farewell to professional tennis at the ATP 500 in Vienna — a tournament he victoriously claimed in 2019 — the journey reflects a monumental career highlighted by his ascent to World No. 3 in 2020 and his triumphant run at the US Open. With Babolat’s Pure Strike racquet and RPM Power strings as constant companions, Thiem has been a remarkable ambassador for the brand, signifying a successful collaboration.
The word “elegance” aptly encapsulates Dominic Thiem’s presence on the court. Renowned for his technical skill and exemplary sportsmanship, the Austrian bids adieu to his 15-year ATP Tour career in Vienna, having spent 10 remarkable seasons partnered with Babolat.
Dominic officially joined the Babolat family in 2015, wielding the Pure Strike—a racquet crafted for precision control, ideally suited for aggressive players. In his debut season, he clinched ATP 250 titles in Nice, Umag, and Gstaad, illustrating the immediate impact of this partnership. Yet, Thiem’s connection with Babolat predates this era, beginning at the 2013 Australian Open. Jean-Christophe Verborg, Babolat’s Head of Competition, recounts: “While we typically sign emerging talents early, working with Dominic was non-negotiable for us. Our commitment saw us visiting him multiple times—from Vienna to Tenerife—convinced that the Pure Strike racquet was his perfect partner. We knew he would represent our ‘control’ segment exceptionally.”
Throughout his career, Dominic has sought innovations, collaborating on the RPM Power strings and evolving the Pure Strike racquet to optimize his game. This powerhouse partnership thrives beyond the court; as Éric Babolat notes, “We share core values with Dominic—his tenacious spirit, exemplary sportsmanship, and environmental consciousness. Over the past decade, our joint dedication has fine-tuned his equipment, and I am immensely proud of the strong bond we’ve forged.”
