Women’s world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty has found her partner for the 2021 Australian Open. According to ESPN, organizers of the tournament announced that Barty will play with U.S. Open semifinalist Jennifer Brady in the doubles tournament. In 2020, Barty played with Julia Goerges in Melbourne but lost in the second round to the eventual winners in Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic. Goerges has since retired, which left Barty without a partner.
Scouting Ashleigh Barty
If you are new to the sport, here’s an easy tennis wagering tip and that is always counting on Barty to win. Barty is ranked the No. 1 singles player by the Women’s Tennis Association. She is featured in the top-20 in doubles as well, winning the 2018 US Open with partner CoCo Vandeweghe. However, after winning the 2019 French Open, she has taken off as one of the best in the world. The 24-year old has won eight singles titles on the WTA Tour, as well as eight doubles titles. Barty rose to the scene after playing in the Australian Open while she was 16 years old.
Barty nearly left tennis altogether. After the 2014 US Open, Barty announced she was going to take a break from tennis. She later said that she had been traveling too much and needed to take some time off. After the announcement, Barty expressed an interest in playing cricket, which came as a shock because she did not play the game when she was younger. Barty met with the Australian women’s national team in early 2015 to discuss her experience.
She eventually began training with the Queensland Fire and played competitively with the Western Suburbs District Cricket Club, where she played in 13 matches. It was only a one-year membership in the retirement club as she returned to tennis in 2016. Since then, Barty has been on a tear, finishing at the top of the rankings for a second consecutive season.
Scouting Jennifer Brady
Brady made her Grand Slam debut in the 2014 U.S. Open. Since then, Brady has won one WTA singles title, as well as four singles and five doubles titles on the ITF Circuit. Brady’s national breakout came in the 2017 Australian Open. As a qualifier, she made a run to the fourth round. The same season she qualified for the fourth round of the U.S. Open. The following two seasons, Brady focused on doubles due to struggling with injuries; however, she returned to singles in 2020, where she defeated Maria Sharapova and Barty in the same year.
She won her first WTA singles title at the Top Seed Open in Lexington, Kentucky. She qualified for the semifinals in the U.S. Open, defeating former No. 1 Angelique Kerber. Brady played college tennis at UCLA, where she helped the team win a National Championship in 2014. This will be the first time that Barty and Brady play doubles together. Given their resumes in the ATP Finals, they should be a contender for the championship.
