Miami, Florida—Top ranked Andy Murray has been forced to withdraw from next week’s Miami Open, citing an elbow injury.
“Sadly, due to a right elbow injury, I won’t be playing in Miami. Apologies to the fans, it’s one of my favourite tournaments. The focus now is on getting ready for the clay season.”
The top seed will be joined on the sidelines of event by Serena Williams (knee injury) and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (expecting the birth of his first child). Elsewhere, it has been speculated that defending champion Novak Djokovic will also miss the year’s second Masters 1000 event with an elbow injury. Djokovic had flown back to Monte Carlo to have his elbow looked at after a second round defeat at the BNP Paribas Open.
