Alcaraz Wins 2024 Wimbledon Title Over Djokovic
Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz won his fourth career Major on Sunday at Wimbledon, defeating seven-time former winner Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4).
Needing two hours and eight minutes to prevail, Alcaraz poured in five aces, won 84 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on five occasions.
Tying his head-to-head with Djokovic at 3-all, Alcaraz not only defended his title at Wimbledon but completed the rare French Open, Wimbledon double.
The 21-year-old will be ranked No. 3 in the world on Monday after Jannik Sinner and Djokovic.
Djokovic, who was attempting to win his 25th career Major, entered Wimbledon off of recent knee survey. The 37-year-old was playing in his 37th career Major final (the most ever). He was also playing in his 10th Wimbledon final.
The Serbian will now set his sights on completing at the Olympic Games in Paris, France. The Olympic Gold medal remains the only major title that Djokovic has not won in his career.
Alcaraz Aims for a US Open Title
With two Majors under his belt this season, Alcaraz will now look forward to another title at the US Open. The Spaniard won his maiden Slam title in New York in 2021. He will be joined by all the best players in the world for the fourth and final Grand Slam of the season.
