Top seed Carlos Alcaraz was tested on Saturday at The Wimbledon Championships, defeating No. 25 seed Nicolas Jarry 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-3, 7-5.
Alcaraz, who is in search of his first Wimbledon title, will next face former finalist Matteo Berrettini on Monday. The Italian slammed 15 aces past No. 19 seed Alexander Zverev in a straight set victory.
Elsewhere, No. 3 seed Daniil Medvedev ousted Marton Fucsovics 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 and will next face Jiri Lehecka. Lehecka needed five thrilling sets to upend No. 16 seed Tommy Paul.
No. 5 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, No. 6 seed Holger Rune and unseeded American Christopher Eubanks were also winners on the day.
On the women’s side, No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka coasted past Anna Blinkova 6-2, 6-3. The reigning Australian Open winner will take on No. 21 Ekaterina Alexandrova for a place in the quarterfinals.
Former two-time winner Petra Kvitova and No. 13 Beatriz Haddad Maia also prevailed to the round of 16.
Sunday’s schedule of play will be highlighted by Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek, Andrey Rublev, Jessica Pegula and Jannik Sinner.
