Alcaraz Wins on Wednesday
Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz breezed into the third round of the Championships on Wednesday, defeating Aleksandar Vukic 7-6(5), 6-2, 6-2.
Needing one hour and 48 minutes to advance, Alcaraz hit 11 aces, won 82 percent of his first serve points and broke Australian opponent on six occasions.
Improving to 28-6 on the years, Alcaraz will next face Frances Tiafoe in a mouth-watering third-round encounter.
The American, who has had a poor year by his standards, defeated Borna Coric in straight sets.
Other winners on the day included No. 16 seed Ugo Humbert, Brandon Nakashima, Quentin Halys, Roman Safiullin and Emil Ruusuvuori.
Former Monte Carlo winner Fabio Fognini defeated No. 8 seed Casper Ruud 6-4, 7-5, 6-7(1), 6-3.
Gauff Advances to Third Round
Reigning US Open winner Coco Gauff stormed into the third round of The Championships on Wednesday, dispatching Anca Todoni 6-2, 6-1.
In a match that lasted one hour and six minutes, Gauff hit two aces, hit 13 winners and won 83 percent of her points at net.
Gauff will next face Sonay Kartal for a place in the fourth round. Kartal dispatched Clara Burel in straight sets.
Elsewhere, No. 11 seed Danielle Collins, No. 20 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia, No. 21 seed Elina Svitolina, Jule Niemeier, Katie Volynets and Camila Osorio all advanced.
Thursday’s schedule of play at Wimbledon will feature Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek and Jack Draper.
