Wednesday’s action at the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy featured reigning Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz picking up an easy victory over No. 5 seed Andrey Rublev, 7-5, 6-2.
Needing a mere one hour and 15 minutes to seal his win, Alcaraz struck 19 winners, hit five aces, won 94 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on three occasions.
Improving to 1-0 against Rublev in lifetime meetings, Alcaraz will next face Daniil Medvedev on Friday for a place in the semifinals.
Medvedev improved to 11-7 against Alexander Zverev during the night session, defeating the German 7-6(7), 6-4.
Medvedev also dismissed Rublev on Monday, while Zverev ousted Alcaraz in three sets.
Thursday’s schedule of play at the ATP Finals will be highlighted by top seed Novak Djokovic taking on No. 9 seed Hubert Hurkacz and No. 4 seed Jannik Sinner facing No. 8 seed Holger Rune.
Sinner currently stands at 2-0 in the Green Group, with Djokovic and Rune holding 1-1 records.
