Friday’s action at Wimbledon featured top seed Carlos Alcaraz advancing to the third round, defeating Alexandre Muller 6-4, 7-6(2), 6-3. Alcaraz will next face No. 25 Nicolas Jarry or Jason Kubler.
Elsewhere, No. 3 seed Daniil Medvedev wrapped up a second round win against Adrian Mannarino in straight sets and No. 6 seed Holger Rune raced past Roberto Carballes Baena 6-3, 7-6(3), 6-4.
No. 5 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas overcame a two sets to one deficit to oust two-time former winner Andy Murray 7-6(3), 6-7(2), 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-4.
Former finalist Matteo Berrettini easily dismissed No. 15 seed Alex de Minaur 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Berrettini will take on No. 19 seed Alexander Zverev for a place in the fourth round.
No. 17 seed Hubert Hurkacz reached the fourth round after dismissing No. 14 seed Lorenzo Musetti 7-6(4), 6-4, 6-4.
On the women’s side, Bianca Andreescu ousted No. 26 seed Anhelina Kalinina 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(7), and recent Eastbourne winner Madison Keys blitzed past Sonay Kartal 6-0, 6-3.
Later in the day, top seed Iga Swiatek eased into the round of 16 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Petra Martic. Swiatek will take on Belinda Bencic for a place in the quarterfinals.
In the last match of the day, four-time defending winner Novak Djokovic dismissed Stan Wawrinka 6-3, 6-1, 7-6(5) in an entertaining affair to reach round four.
