ATP Vienna, Basel & WTA Tokyo, Guangzhou 2026 Draw Preview: Alcaraz, Rybakina, Zverev, Shelton Headline Huge Week

LINK: Vienna Draw | Basel Draw | Tokyo Draw | Guangzhou Draw

The 2026 tennis season enters one of its most important late-season weeks as four significant tournaments take centre stage from October 26-November 1.

On the ATP Tour, the Erste Bank Open in Vienna and Swiss Indoors Basel provide two simultaneous ATP 500 tournaments featuring some of the biggest names in men’s tennis. On the WTA Tour, the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo serves as the final WTA 500 tournament of the season, while the Guangzhou Open offers another valuable opportunity for players to collect ranking points before the season comes to a close.

With Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Ben Shelton, Elena Rybakina, Naomi Osaka and Venus Williams among the stars expected to compete across the four events, there will be no shortage of storylines.

The official main draws will determine the exact first-round matchups, but the confirmed entry lists already provide a fascinating look at what could be one of the deepest weeks of the 2026 fall tennis calendar.

Here is our complete ATP Vienna, ATP Basel, WTA Tokyo and WTA Guangzhou 2026 draw preview.

ATP Vienna 2026 Draw Preview: Sinner Leads a Loaded Erste Bank Open

Tournament: Erste Bank Open
Location: Vienna, Austria
Level: ATP 500
Surface: Indoor Hard
Dates: October 26-November 1, 2026

The Erste Bank Open has assembled an exceptional 2026 field, with tournament organizers confirming six Top-10 players and 11 members of the Top 20 on the entry list as of the beginning of October.

At the centre of everything is Carlos Alcaraz.

The Spaniard returns to Vienna in search of his fourth title of the season.

His compact groundstrokes, elite return game and ability to take time away from opponents make him particularly dangerous on Vienna’s indoor hard courts.

But this is anything but a one-player tournament.

Alexander Zverev Eyes Another Vienna Title

Alexander Zverev should once again be one of Sinner’s biggest obstacles.

The German won Vienna in 2021 and finished runner-up to Sinner in 2025. His combination of a huge first serve and one of the strongest two-handed backhands in tennis makes him exceptionally difficult to break down indoors.

Another Sinner-Zverev meeting would immediately become one of the headline matches of the European indoor season.

Daniil Medvedev Remains Dangerous Indoors

Never overlook Daniil Medvedev on an indoor hard court.

The former US Open champion won Vienna in 2022 and has the type of unconventional baseline game that can completely disrupt aggressive opponents.

His return position, flat groundstrokes and ability to redirect pace should make him one of the most dangerous players anywhere in the draw.

Vienna’s Incredible Supporting Cast

The depth of the field may be the biggest story.

Alex de Minaur, Flavio Cobolli, Frances Tiafoe, Lorenzo Musetti, Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov are among the established names entered, while Jakub Mensik and Learner Tien add another generation of dangerous talent.

That means potentially difficult matches could arrive immediately.

There simply may not be many comfortable sections of this Vienna draw.

Players to Watch in Vienna

Carlos Alcaraz: The former world No. 1 in back in action

Alexander Zverev: A former Vienna champion with a game perfectly suited to indoor conditions.

Daniil Medvedev: Another former champion whose hard-court credentials need little introduction.

Alex de Minaur: His speed, consistency and increasingly aggressive baseline tennis make him dangerous in any draw.

Lorenzo Musetti: A fascinating player to follow indoors because of his variety and ability to change the geometry of rallies.

Learner Tien: One of the younger names capable of making a major impact if he lands in the right section.

Vienna Dark Horse: Frances Tiafoe

Tiafoe’s explosive first-strike tennis can be extremely effective indoors.

When he is serving well and attacking with his forehand, the American has the ability to turn matches into quick-fire exchanges where opponents have little time to establish rhythm.

With so many elite players entered, however, the placement of the seeds will be crucial.

ATP Basel 2026 Draw Preview: Shelton and Auger-Aliassime Lead Swiss Indoors

Tournament: Swiss Indoors Basel
Location: Basel, Switzerland
Level: ATP 500
Surface: Indoor Hard
Dates: October 26-November 1, 2026

While Vienna features incredible depth, the Swiss Indoors Basel has assembled a fascinating field of its own.

Ben Shelton, Félix Auger-Aliassime, Arthur Fils, Taylor Fritz, Rafael Jódar, Alexander Bublik, Casper Ruud, João Fonseca, Hubert Hurkacz, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Holger Rune are among the notable players announced for Basel.

It creates a tournament loaded with power, young talent and players who can thrive in fast indoor conditions.

Ben Shelton Could Be Built for Basel

Few players benefit from indoor conditions quite like Ben Shelton.

The American’s left-handed serve is one of the biggest weapons in tennis, and a controlled indoor environment allows him to attack without wind or weather affecting his ball toss.

Short points should suit Shelton perfectly.

If he serves efficiently, opponents may find very few opportunities to make inroads on his service games.

Félix Auger-Aliassime Returns to Familiar Territory

Basel has already been an important tournament in Félix Auger-Aliassime’s career.

The Canadian won consecutive Swiss Indoors titles in 2022 and 2023, establishing himself as one of the tournament’s most accomplished recent champions.

His serve-plus-one combination becomes particularly effective indoors, and his history at the St. Jakobshalle should make him one of the central figures to follow.

Taylor Fritz Brings More Serving Power

Add Taylor Fritz to the list of players who should appreciate the conditions.

Fritz can dominate behind his first serve while taking the ball early off both wings. On quicker courts, that combination can put enormous pressure on opponents.

A potential meeting involving Fritz against Shelton or Auger-Aliassime would produce one of the most serve-dominated matches of the tournament.

Arthur Fils Represents the Next Wave

Basel will also provide another opportunity to watch two of the most explosive young talents in men’s tennis.

João Fonseca brings enormous baseline power, while Arthur Fils combines athleticism with an increasingly complete attacking game.

Neither player will want to wait patiently behind the established stars.

Stan Wawrinka’s Basel Farewell

There will also be considerable emotion surrounding Stan Wawrinka.

The three-time Grand Slam champion has received a wildcard and is scheduled to play his first-round match on Tuesday, October 27, following a tribute in Basel on Monday. The tournament has announced that Wawrinka will end his career in Basel.

Regardless of his opponent, expect his match to be one of the most anticipated of the opening round.

Basel Players to Watch

Ben Shelton: One of the most naturally dangerous players in indoor conditions.

Félix Auger-Aliassime: Two-time Basel champion with an outstanding history at the event.

Taylor Fritz: Another elite server capable of controlling matches quickly.

Arthur Fils: Athletic, powerful and increasingly comfortable against the game’s biggest names.

Alexander Bublik: His unpredictable shot-making and huge serve make him particularly dangerous indoors.

Basel Dark Horse: Hubert Hurkacz

Hurkacz’s serve alone makes him a threat in these conditions.

If his first-serve percentage remains high, opponents can go long stretches without seeing a break-point opportunity.

WTA Tokyo 2026 Draw Preview: Rybakina, Swiatek and Pegula Headline Toray Pan Pacific Open

Tournament: Toray Pan Pacific Open
Location: Tokyo, Japan
Level: WTA 500
Surface: Outdoor Hard
Dates: October 26-November 1, 2026
Singles Draw: 28 players

Tokyo may have the biggest implications of any WTA tournament during this week.

The Toray Pan Pacific Open is the final WTA 500 tournament of the 2026 season, meaning the 500 ranking points available to the champion could become extremely important in the battle for qualification and positioning ahead of the WTA Finals.

And the field is outstanding.

World No. 1 Elena Rybakina is scheduled to lead a group that also includes Jessica Pegula, Elina Svitolina, Iga Swiatek and Marta Kostyuk.

Elena Rybakina Leads the Tokyo Field

Few players can take control of a hard-court match as quickly as Rybakina.

Her serve immediately puts opponents under pressure, while her clean, relatively compact groundstrokes allow her to dictate without needing excessive preparation time.

She will also arrive in Tokyo with another major objective: the battle for the year-end World No. 1 ranking.

That gives the tournament significance well beyond the trophy itself.

Jessica Pegula’s Hard-Court Game Fits Tokyo

Few players consistently redirect pace as effectively as Jessica Pegula.

Her compact technique, early ball striking and excellent return of serve make her ideally suited to hard courts.

Against bigger hitters, Pegula’s ability to absorb and redirect power could be particularly valuable.

Belinda Bencic Returns as Defending Champion

Don’t forget about Belinda Bencic.

Bencic returns as the defending Tokyo champion after defeating Linda Noskova in the 2025 final. She has considerable experience at this tournament, having also reached the final in 2015.

Her ability to take the ball early makes her especially dangerous against opponents who need extra time to prepare their groundstrokes.

Naomi Osaka Back in Tokyo

Then there is Naomi Osaka.

Osaka won the tournament in 2019 and previously reached the Tokyo finals in 2016 and 2018.

Playing in Japan always brings additional attention, and her powerful serve and first-strike tennis make her one of the most dangerous players to find outside the very top seeds.

Alexandra Eala and Iva Jovic Add Youth to the Field

The tournament also features two of the most intriguing young players on tour in Alexandra Eala and Iva Jovic.

Both have the opportunity to test themselves against an exceptionally strong field.

The confirmed direct-entry list also includes Karolina Muchova, Linda Noskova, Diana Shnaider, Sorana Cirstea, Elise Mertens, Jasmine Paolini, Maja Chwalinska, Anna Kalinskaya, Leylah Fernandez and Ekaterina Alexandrova.

With only 28 players in the main draw and the top four seeds receiving first-round byes, placement in the bracket will be extremely important.

Tokyo Players to Watch

Elena Rybakina: World No. 1 and expected top seed.

Jessica Pegula: One of the tour’s most dependable hard-court performers.

Belinda Bencic: Defending champion with an excellent Tokyo record.

Naomi Osaka: Former champion playing in front of the Japanese crowd.

Karolina Muchova: Her all-court variety can cause problems for virtually any opponent.

Tokyo Dark Horse: Alexandra Eala

Eala continues to establish herself among the WTA’s emerging generation.

In a tournament where many leading players will arrive after a demanding Asian swing, her energy and aggressive baseline game could make her an especially interesting name to follow.

WTA Guangzhou 2026 Draw Preview: Venus Williams Adds Star Power

Tournament: Guangzhou Open
Location: Guangzhou, China
Level: WTA 250
Surface: Outdoor Hard
Dates: October 26-November 1, 2026
Singles Draw: 32 players

The Guangzhou Open occupies a fascinating position on the calendar.

The WTA 250 tournament takes place on outdoor hard courts at the Nansha International Tennis Center and features a 32-player singles field, with 250 ranking points available to the champion.

But one name has already dramatically increased international interest in the 2026 tournament.

Venus Williams is heading to Guangzhou.

Venus Williams Receives Guangzhou Wildcard

The seven-time Grand Slam singles champion has received wildcards into both the singles and doubles draws.

Williams will also partner Indonesia’s Janice Tjen in doubles. It will mark Williams’ first tournament appearance in Asia since Tianjin in 2019.

Her presence instantly gives Guangzhou one of the most compelling opening-round storylines of the week.

At 46, Williams continues to compete selectively on the WTA Tour, making every appearance an event in itself.

Who she draws in the first round will therefore be one of the first things tennis fans look for when the Guangzhou bracket is released.

Why Guangzhou Could Produce Surprises

WTA 250 tournaments late in the season can be particularly unpredictable.

Players arrive with dramatically different objectives.

Some are chasing ranking points. Others are trying to build momentum for the following season. Younger players may see the tournament as an opportunity to secure a breakthrough title, while experienced competitors know that a deep run can significantly improve their ranking position.

Guangzhou’s 32-player format also means there are no first-round byes.

Every player must win five matches to capture the singles championship.

The Importance of Chinese Tennis in Guangzhou

Guangzhou also occupies an important place in Chinese tennis history.

The tournament joined the WTA calendar in 2004, when Li Na captured the inaugural championship.

More than two decades later, the tournament remains an important part of the WTA’s Asian swing and another opportunity for China’s emerging players to compete on home soil.

ATP Vienna vs. Basel: Which Draw Is Deeper?

Both ATP 500 tournaments should provide outstanding tennis, but they offer very different dynamics.
Vienna appears particularly imposing because of its extraordinary concentration of highly ranked players.

Alcaraz, Zverev, Medvedev, de Minaur, Cobolli, Tiafoe, Musetti, Rublev and Khachanov create the possibility of blockbuster matches well before the semifinals.

Basel, meanwhile, is packed with powerful indoor players and emerging stars.

Shelton, Auger-Aliassime, Fritz, Fils, Fonseca, Bublik and Hurkacz can all produce devastating serving performances, while Rune’s protected-ranking entry could create an unusually dangerous early matchup.

Once the actual brackets are released, the biggest question will be where the dangerous unseeded players land.

WTA Tokyo vs. Guangzhou: Two Very Different Opportunities

Tokyo and Guangzhou offer contrasting challenges.

Tokyo’s WTA 500 field contains multiple established Grand Slam champions and Top-10 players, with Rybakina, Swiatek, Pegula and Svitolina among the headline names.

It could also play a major role in determining the final WTA Finals picture.

Guangzhou offers 250 points but potentially greater opportunities for players outside the very top tier to make a significant ranking move.

And with Venus Williams joining the field, the tournament will have plenty of international attention.

Major Storylines to Follow

1. Can Carlos Alcaraz Win Vienna?
Alcaraz entered the event via a wildcard after defending champion Jannik Sinner withdrew with a knee injury.

2. How much will Tokyo influence the WTA Finals race?
With 500 points available and several players involved in the qualification battle, Tokyo could have major postseason implications.

3. What can Holger Rune do in his return?
Rune’s protected-ranking entry makes his position in the Basel draw particularly intriguing.

4. Who will Venus Williams face in Guangzhou?
Williams’ wildcard guarantees that one first-round Guangzhou matchup will immediately command global attention.

When Are ATP Vienna, Basel, WTA Tokyo and Guangzhou 2026?

All four tournaments will take place during the week culminating on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

The ATP calendar lists Vienna and Basel as the two ATP 500 tournaments beginning the week of October 26.

Tokyo and Guangzhou also run from October 26-November 1, creating a packed week of ATP and WTA action across Europe and Asia.

2026 Vienna, Basel, Tokyo and Guangzhou Draw Preview: Final Thoughts

The final stages of the tennis season rarely lack drama, and the week of October 26-November 1 could have implications stretching well beyond four individual trophies.

Carlos Alcaraz leads an extraordinarily deep Vienna field.

Ben Shelton and Novak Djokovic headline a Basel tournament packed with indoor-court firepower, while Stan Wawrinka’s farewell promises to provide one of the week’s most emotional moments.

On the WTA Tour, Elena Rybakina, and Naomi Osaka headline a Tokyo field with potentially significant WTA Finals implications, while Venus Williams brings another fascinating storyline to Guangzhou.

The next major development will be the release of the official singles draws.

Once those brackets arrive, attention will immediately turn to the first-round blockbusters, dangerous unseeded players and potential quarterfinal and semifinal paths for the leading contenders.

One thing already looks certain: the final full week of October will be one of the most compelling weeks of the 2026 tennis season.
