Wimbledon Championships 2026 Day 9 Preview: Djokovic Faces Auger-Aliassime, Gauff Meets Pegula as Quarter-Final Tuesday Takes Centre Stage

The 2026 Wimbledon Championships reach a pivotal stage on Tuesday with four blockbuster quarter-final encounters set to determine the first semi-finalists in both the gentlemen’s and ladies’ singles draws. Centre Court will host two of the tournament’s biggest attractions, while No. 1 Court offers two fascinating contests featuring the reigning men’s champion and two former Grand Slam champions looking to continue their resurgence.

With Grand Slam history, ATP and WTA rankings, and Wimbledon glory all on the line, Day 9 promises elite shot-making, tactical battles, and championship-calibre tennis at the All England Club. The quarter-final schedule features an all-American showdown between Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, Novak Djokovic’s pursuit of a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title against Felix Auger-Aliassime, top seed Jannik Sinner facing veteran Jan-Lennard Struff, and Naomi Osaka continuing her remarkable comeback against Karolina Muchova. The official order of play places Pegula-Gauff and Auger-Aliassime-Djokovic on Centre Court beginning at 1:30 p.m. local time, while Sinner-Struff and Osaka-Muchova headline No. 1 Court from 1:00 p.m.

Centre Court — 1:30 p.m.

Jessica Pegula (USA) [4] vs. Coco Gauff (USA) [7]

The opening match on Centre Court features one of the most anticipated women’s contests of the tournament as two of America’s biggest stars battle for a place in the Wimbledon semi-finals.

Jessica Pegula has once again demonstrated why she remains one of the most consistent performers on the WTA Tour. Her clean ball-striking, exceptional return game and ability to absorb pace make her particularly dangerous on grass, where patience and precision are often rewarded.

Standing across the net is Coco Gauff, who finally broke through to her maiden Wimbledon quarter-final after years of near misses. Gauff arrives full of confidence following an impressive fortnight that has showcased both her improved serve and increasingly aggressive forehand. Her athleticism remains among the very best in the sport, allowing her to turn defence into offence in an instant.

Key Tactical Battle

This match could ultimately be decided by who controls the baseline first.

Pegula prefers taking the ball early, redirecting pace and keeping rallies compact, while Gauff will look to use her movement to create forehand opportunities and pressure Pegula’s second serve.

With both players exceptionally familiar with each other’s games through years on the WTA Tour and international team competitions, expect long rallies, momentum swings and outstanding defensive tennis.

Player to Watch: Coco Gauff

Having finally reached her first Wimbledon quarter-final, Gauff appears to be playing with greater freedom than ever before on grass.

Felix Auger-Aliassime (CAN) [3] vs. Novak Djokovic (SRB) [7]

Few matches on the schedule carry greater intrigue than Felix Auger-Aliassime facing seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic.

Auger-Aliassime has produced some of the highest-quality tennis of his career throughout these Championships. His huge first serve, explosive forehand and improved confidence under pressure have helped carry him into another Grand Slam quarter-final following a thrilling five-set victory in the previous round.

Standing in his path is one of the greatest grass-court players in tennis history.

At 39 years old, Novak Djokovic continues rewriting the record books. The Serbian legend arrives after earning his record 106th Wimbledon match victory and now seeks an unprecedented 25th Grand Slam singles title. Although several of his matches have required physical resilience, his experience during the latter stages of major tournaments remains unmatched.

Keys to Victory

For Auger-Aliassime:

  • Maintain a high first-serve percentage.
  • Finish points early at the net.
  • Attack Djokovic’s second serve whenever possible.

For Djokovic:

  • Extend rallies.
  • Neutralize Felix’s serve through elite returning.
  • Force the Canadian into hitting extra balls under pressure.

If Auger-Aliassime serves at an elite level, this could become one of the matches of the tournament. However, Djokovic has built his legendary Wimbledon résumé by solving precisely these types of challenges.

Player to Watch: Novak Djokovic

Every match now represents another opportunity to extend one of the greatest careers tennis has ever witnessed.

No. 1 Court — 1:00 p.m.

Jannik Sinner (ITA) [1] vs. Jan-Lennard Struff (GER)

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner continues his title defence against one of the surprise stories of Wimbledon 2026.

Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff has reached the first Grand Slam quarter-final of his career at age 36, playing fearless first-strike tennis throughout the fortnight. His massive serve and willingness to attack behind it have made him one of the most dangerous unseeded players remaining in the draw.

Sinner, meanwhile, has looked every bit the defending champion.

The Italian has blended effortless power with remarkable movement on grass, continuing to improve his already elite return game while showing increasing confidence finishing points at the net.

Match Outlook

Struff’s best opportunity lies in shortening rallies.

If points extend beyond five or six shots, Sinner’s superior movement, consistency and backhand stability should gradually wear the German down.

Still, grass rewards aggressive serving, and Struff possesses enough firepower to force multiple tiebreaks if he serves near his peak.

Player to Watch: Jannik Sinner

The defending champion remains the favourite to lift the trophy and continues to play with remarkable efficiency.

Naomi Osaka (JPN) [14] vs. Karolina Muchova (CZE) [10]

The final match on No. 1 Court features two of the most gifted shot-makers on the WTA Tour.

Naomi Osaka has authored one of the stories of Wimbledon by defeating world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka to reach her first Wimbledon quarter-final. Her powerful serving and aggressive baseline tennis appear perfectly suited to the faster grass conditions, while renewed confidence has transformed her movement and court positioning.

Karolina Muchova represents perhaps the tour’s most creative all-court player.

The Czech mixes slices, drop shots, net approaches and tactical variation better than almost anyone in the women’s game. Her grass-court instincts make her particularly dangerous against power hitters.

Tactical Breakdown

This contest represents a fascinating clash of styles.

Osaka will attempt to dominate with first-strike tennis and shorten rallies through her serve and forehand.

Muchova will counter with variety, angles and changes of pace designed to disrupt Osaka’s rhythm.

Their evenly matched rivalry and contrasting approaches make this one of Tuesday’s most unpredictable quarter-finals.

Player to Watch: Naomi Osaka

If Osaka continues serving at the level she displayed against Sabalenka, she has every chance of reaching her first Wimbledon semi-final.

Wimbledon 2026 Day 9 Predictions

  • Jessica Pegula vs. Coco Gauff: Gauff in three sets
  • Felix Auger-Aliassime vs. Novak Djokovic: Djokovic in four sets
  • Jannik Sinner vs. Jan-Lennard Struff: Sinner in three sets
  • Naomi Osaka vs. Karolina Muchova: Osaka in three sets

Final Thoughts

Quarter-final Tuesday offers everything tennis fans could hope for: established legends chasing history, emerging stars pursuing breakthrough moments, and four matches capable of producing instant Wimbledon classics.

Djokovic continues his pursuit of Grand Slam immortality, Sinner looks to defend his crown, Gauff seeks another career milestone, while Osaka attempts to complete one of the sport’s finest comeback stories.

With Centre Court and No. 1 Court featuring eight world-class competitors, Wimbledon 2026 is poised for another unforgettable day at the All England Club.
