The Singapore Tennis Open Scales New Heights, Returning in 2026 as a WTA 500 Tournament

SINGAPORE, 10 October 2025 – After the smashing success of the Singapore Tennis Open (STO) 2025, a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 250 tournament, held at the Kallang Tennis Hub in January this year, Kallang Alive Sport Management (KASM) is pleased to announce that the STO will be upgraded to a WTA 500 tournament and hosted here from 2026 to 2030. This is a first for the city state and the 2026 edition will be the only WTA 500 event in Southeast Asia.

WTA CEO Portia Archer said: “The inaugural Singapore Tennis Open in January received excellent feedback all around, a true testament to how successful the event was. The WTA is excited to see it being staged in 2026 as a 500-level tournament which I’m sure will attract many top players to compete in front of Singapore’s passionate fans.”

“The Singapore Tennis Open held earlier this year was a resounding success among fans, players and officials and we are delighted it has been elevated to a WTA 500 tournament,” said APG COO, Laura Ceccarelli. “With only 17 WTA 500 tournaments on the 2026 WTA calendar, the tennis community can expect to see many of the best players compete in the Singapore Tennis Open next year.”

“It is extremely gratifying that Singapore was not only chosen to host a prestigious WTA 500 tournament from 2026 to 2030, but will be the only country in Southeast Asia to host a WTA 500 event next year. This is testament to Singapore and the Singapore Sports Hub’s ability to successfully deliver international sporting offerings, bringing the world’s best athletes to the nation and the wider region,” said Quek Swee Kuan, Chief Executive Officer, Kallang Alive Sport Management.

The STO, which will take place from 21 September 2026, will showcase elite international players vying to win the first-ever WTA 500 level trophy in Singapore. This upgrade to WTA 500 status underscores Singapore Sports Hub’s world-class infrastructure and reinforces the nation’s growing reputation as a premier destination for international sporting events.

“The elevation of the Singapore Tennis Open to a WTA 500 event is a significant milestone for tennis in Singapore. As the only Southeast Asian nation to host a tournament at this level, we are excited to welcome some of the world’s best players here and provide top quality tennis experiences for our local and international fans. On top of showcasing the elite competition, we hope that this event can also inspire our next generation of tennis talent in Singapore and beyond,” said Alan Goh, Chief Executive Officer, Sport Singapore.

Returning alongside the STO is the Singapore Tennis Invitational Cup (STIC), organised by Singapore Tennis Association in partnership with KASM. This will be the second edition of STIC and will feature top teams from the region competing for the title.

“The Singapore Tennis Association is thrilled that Singapore will once again host the WTA Singapore Tennis Open in 2026 – now elevated to a prestigious WTA 500 tournament. This marks an exciting milestone for tennis in our country, reaffirming Singapore’s place as a premier destination for world-class sporting events,” shared Jasmine Quek, President, Singapore Tennis Association. “Building on the success of this year’s WTA 250 event at the Kallang Tennis Hub, we are excited to deliver an exceptional edition as part of a broader Festival of Tennis, bringing together the Singapore Tennis Open at the upgraded WTA 500 level with key developmental events including the Singapore Tennis Invitational Cup. Together, these events will showcase the game at every level and strengthen Singapore’s position as a vibrant hub for tennis. We look forward to welcoming the global tennis community to Singapore in 2026 for a celebration of excellence, sportsmanship and the spirit of tennis.”

The STO will see the activation of the greater Singapore Sports Hub precinct. The Kallang Tennis Hub will serve as competition grounds for STIC, while the OCBC Arena will transform into a world-class tennis venue to accommodate a larger capacity crowd to catch the STO. The broader precinct will feature fan activations and fringe activities for all.
