Djokovic Faces Bergs for Quarterfinal Showdown in Shanghai; Sabalenka, Gauff Featured on Thursday in Wuhan
Thursday’s Preview in Shanghai and Wuhan
Thursday’s action at the Rolex Shanghai Masters will feature 24-time Major winner Novak Djokovic back in action, facing Zizou Bergs from Belgium.
Looking to reach the semifinals, Djokovic will face Bergs for the first time in his career. Djokovic will be aiming to win the 102nd title of his career this week and the second of 2025.
Other matches that will take place on Thursday will include No. 10 seed Holger Rune taking on Monaco native Valentin Vacherot.
Rune, who has had an up-and-down season, currently stands at 34-20 on the year.
On Wednesday, Arthur Rinderknech followed up his victory over No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev by defeating No. 15 seed Jiri Lehecka 6-3, 7-6(5), No. 7 seed Alex de Minaur dismissed Nuno Borges 7-5, 6-2, and No. 12 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime dispatched No. 8 seed Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 6-2.
Auger-Aliassime is currently ranked No. 13 in the world. He recently made the semifinals of the US Open.
Wuhan Open: Thursday Preview
Thursday’s action at the Wuhan Open in China will feature the top three seeds in action.
Top seed Aryna Sabalenka will take on No. 16 seed Liudmila Samsonova, No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek will face No. 13 seed Belinda Bencic, and No. 3 seed Coco Gauff will take on Zhang Shuai.
On Wednesday, Sabalenka ousted Rebecca Sramkova in three sets, and Gauff easily advanced to the round of 16 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Moyuka Uchijima.
No. 10 seed Clara Tauson, and Linda Noskova also advanced on Wednesday. Noskova defeated No. 10 seed Naomi Osaka 7-6(2), 6-2 earlier int he day.
