Korda Primed for Finals Appearance at Winston-Salem Open

Friday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results and Previews

No. 11 Sebastian Korda will aim to reach the finals of the Winston-Salem Open on Friday, facing Marton Fucsovics from Hungary.

Korda, who has two titles to his name, has not played an event since Roland Garros due to injury. Currently ranked No. 86 in the world, Korda hit a career high ranking of No. 15 in the world in August of 2024.

The day’s other semifinal will feature world No. 39 Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard taking on either Botic van de Zandschulp or Yunchaokete Bu. Van de Zanschulp and Bu had their match suspended due to rain on Thursday. Van de Zanschulp was leading Bu 6-3, 4-3. 

Mpetshi Perricard will be looking to win his third career title this weekend in North Carolina.

Tennis in the Land—Cleveland, Ohio

Friday’s semifinal acton at the WTA 250 event in Cleveland, Ohio will feature No. 2 see Wang Xinyu facing American Ann Li, and Sorana Cirstea from Romania going up against Anastasia Zakharova from Russia.

On Thursday, Cirstea caused the upset of the tournament by easily defeating top seed Liudmila Samsonova 6-4, 6-1. Hitting seven aces during her victory, Cirstea will be looking to win her seven career title this weekend. The 35-year-old reached a career high of No. 35 in the world in March of 2009.

Abierto GNP Seguros—Monterrey, Mexico

Semifinal action is set to take place at the 500 level tournament in Monterrey, Mexico on Friday.

American Alycia Parks will play the biggest semifinal of her career when she takes on No. 3 seed Diana Shnaider.

Parks defeated top seed Emma Navarro earlier in the event.

The day’s second semifinal will feature No. 2 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova facing Marie Bouzkova from the Czech Republic.

Alexandrova will be the overwhelming favourite to capture her second title of the season this weekend. The Russian currently sits at a career high ranking of No. 14 in the world.
